In order to be able to grasp the quality of the Jaia hair extension system, you must first understand a bit about other systems as well. If you’ve learned the hard way and have already suffered through most or all of these, just skip to “Jaia Quality.”

The most common hair extensions utilize hair (sold in beauty supply stores and various web sites) that is collected from hair brushes. The hair undergoes drastic processes to texturize and coat to make it look fantastic. It is processed with a series of chemicals to get it to straighten, wave, or curl. Instead of taking care and spending time and energy to align the cuticles of the hair correctly - if they are even still intact - these hair companies then use a high-tech silicon coating that produces a beautiful shine simulating the appearance of healthy hair.

Unfortunately, this shine does not last for more than a couple of weeks. Soon enough, the coating wears off from washing and/or use of styling aids. The customer is left with a matted, dull, dry MESS of exposed frayed misaligned, damaged cuticles. The misalignment alone can cause these issues. Combine that with all the damage done to mask the poor quality of the hair. Despite the amount of processing and chemicals, this hair is the cheapest and is used for the cheapest application techniques. These include, braiding, Brazilian, weaving and wefting with glue or other bonding chemicals.

Strand-by-strand applications are more costly because they are more tailored to the natural fall of the person's hair.

Preferred throughout Hollywood, Broadway and all high-society circles, they adhere to small sections of hair rather than large pieces like the aforementioned techniques. Strand-by-strand applications also limit the amount of stress on the scalp. Perhaps the most famous "s-b-s" system is Great Lengths. GL was a pioneer of the strand-by-strand concept. While they only use pure hair with its cuticles correctly aligned, they only access hair from India. Indian hair is beautiful and ideal for people from India and possibly parts of Asia as well. (All people groups have their own textures. I know for myself, my hair is very fine and wispy. It blends best with hair imported from Russia and Poland.)

GL also prides itself on using only a "safe" keratin bond to adhere the extension to your hair. Keratin is a protein found WITHIN the hair shaft. Once removed and used to create a "bond," it is now simply an ingredient in glue. It provides no protection against hair damage.
